Welcome

Welcome to my blog about living with Gorlin Syndrome in Australia.

Please read my profile; "ABOUT ME".

This syndrome has various names, such as Basal Cell Naevus Syndrome.

I plan to use this blog to inform and encourage others who live with Gorlin Syndrome (GS), and I hope it will enable other Australians with GS to find the mutual support group, by making us more visible online.  I hope that search engines will find posts made here.

I intend to discuss and review some of the established knowledge about GS and related topics, and also to write about some new developments such as new drug treatments that are now being tested.  I want to make it understandable to readers who have an interest in this syndrome but have less background knowledge of science.  If people ask questions, I will try to answer in a helpful way.

The Australian Gorlin Syndrome mutual support group operates mainly by email contact and Facebook, but some people meet.  The Adelaide group meets occasionally for lunch and informal chat.  In July 2011, we had a specialist speak about treatment options for basal cell carcinomas, but future lunches may be informal occasions.

This is my first blog, but I have been a respected contributor (called an "avatar") in the ABC "Self Service Science Forum" for several years, where I post mainly about biological science.   There is a lot of non - science and even some nonsense posted there, unfortunately.  For any reader who wants to see that forum, its url is:

http://www2b.abc.net.au/science/k2/stn/

Some of the material I will post here will be based on what I wrote for the email group.  As I learn how to blog, I hope to arrange this material in a more useful way.

The software informed me that I will receive an email alerting me when comments are posted. I intend to reply, if email addresses are supplied. See the second post of August 2011 ("Raising Awareness among Dermatologists") for other ways to contact the Australian Mutual Support Group.
